Medical Staff Services Coordinator

Job Description

 

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Medical Staff Services Coordinator is responsible for the management of the medical staff organization, including credentialing, reappraisal, Joint Commission (Medical Staff section) standards, institutional review, bylaws and policies, fair hearing processes, and physician CME coordination. The Medical Staff Services Coordinator reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer of the hospital and continually updates the Medical Staff Officers, Department and Committee Chairmen.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree in business, health care management or other related degree preferred. Requires the equivalent of five years experience at the executive/administrative level, preferable in Medical Staff or Physician Services.  Familiarity with computerized data systems and MS Office is required.  Certification by the National Association of Medical Staff Services (NAMSS) as a Certified Medical Staff Coordinator (CMSC) or as a Certified Provider of Credentialing Specialists (CPCS).  If current certification is not held, certification should be obtained within two years of employment.  Good communication skills required and a pleasant telephone voice.  Requires excellent physical and mental stamina; must be able to sit for extended periods with some walking, bending, light lifting required; ability to work well in stressful situations independent of direct supervision; OSHA Classification Category III.
